From the bright lights, scents and sounds of bustling Bangkok, to the laid-back lifestyle on its iconic beaches, Thailand is the type of honeymoon destination that dreams are made of.

Thailand Honeymoon Destination

Thailand is often described by travellers as ‘the most exotic country in Asia,’ and for good reason, it stretches almost 2,000 kilometres from the mountains in the north down to the Gulf of Thailand in the south, giving it one of the most diverse climates in the whole of south east Asia. The country has four natural regions; the north is mountainous with a temperate climate, great for the cultivation of strawberries, peaches and the national flower, the orchid; the northeast plateau with its many archaeological and anthropological mysteries; the central plain which is one of the worlds most fertile rice and fruit growing regions and also is where the capital Bangkok is located; and finally the peninsular south with its endless coastline and famous beaches. No matter what type of honeymoon you are looking for, Thailand has it all, from the bustling districts of Bangkok to the tranquility of the south east coast.

Bangkok

The country’s capital, Bangkok is divided by numerous canals and passages which feed off the Chao Phraya river, nicknaming it ‘Venice of the east.’ The city has around 50 different districts. The most interesting for tourists is the Phra Nakhon district, where skyscrapers have been forbidden in order to preserve an area where many of the buildings are as old as Thailand itself. Some of the most popular attractions are the Grand Palace, the King’s official residence, Democracy Monument, Giant Swing, the temples of Wat Pho and Wat Arun and Sanam Luang. The Ratchaprasong district is the main shopping area and the Chatuchak weekend market is a great place to soak up the atmosphere as well as pick up some bargins.

Accommodation in Bangkok is plentiful with a number of deluxe hotels, including plenty of well-known global hotel names.

The Beaches

The country is SO famous for its beach resorts, and whether you’re looking for an action packed break with buzzing nightlife or a total escape from it all, you are sure to find what you are looking for along Thailand’s coastline. Some of the most popular resorts include Koh Samui, Phuket, Pattaya and Hua Hin, all offer excellent food, lively nightlife and plenty of activities, including elephant riding, sailing, kayaking and game fishing. The quieter resorts of Krabi, Koh Lanta, Khao Lak and the Phi Phi islands (where ‘The Beach’ was filmed) offer out of this world scenery, breathtaking diving and some of the most luxurious resorts in the country.
