Singapore was originally a British trading colony, but since its independence has become one of the worlds most prosperous countries and has the worlds busiest port. It is an Asian city-state lying south east of Malaysia and is made up of 63 islands. Thanks to its close proximity to the equator, Singapore has a tropical rainforest climate with no distinctive seasons and can be very humid – maybe why the world’s most famous refreshing cocktail comes from here!
Marina Bay is a relatively new area of Singapore, mainly dominated by the Marina Bay Sands integrated resort consisting of hotel, casinos shopping malls, convention centre and museum. Every day at 8pm and 9.30pm, and Friday & Saturday also at 11pm the free Wonder Full light show takes place. For 13 minutes Singapore’s city skyline will feel like your own private viewing backdrop with an amazing light, music and sound show.

The Garden City, as Singapore is known, is very modern with a skyline of skyscrapers and has a medley of Chinese, Malay and Indian influences. The city is famous for its amazing shopping malls, envious cuisine and has a vibrant night-life scene. Singapore is broken into a number of districts including Orchard Road – the famous shopping hub, LIttle India, Chinatown and Riverside, the colonial core with museums, statues and theatres.

The best shopping area can be found on Orchard Road, with high end luxury brands like Chanel and Louis Vuitton found here. There are any amount of shopping malls on this vast stretch catering for all budgets.
The food on offer in Singapore is world-class and can accommodate any budget, from noodles from a stall to fine dining at some of the world’s top (and most expensive) Western and Asian restaurants in the world. Some of the most popular dishes include chilli crab, satay with peanut sauce and Katong laksa.

The famous Singapore Botanic Gardens has miles of rainforest, as well as the National Orchid Garden with 1000 orchid species and 2000 hybrids.

The Singapore Flyer
If heights are no problem to you be sure to visit the Singapore Flyer, Singapore’s answer to the London Eye. Standing at 165 meters high you will get a great view of the city. The Flyer can be found at 30 Raffles Avenue, and whilst you are here, head to Seafood paradise for some chilli crabs, a local delicacy. Singapore Cable Car will also give you a bird’s eye view of the city, the harbour and Sentosa Island. With 360 degree panoramic windows, no sight will go missed!

Raffles Hotel is an absolutely stunning hotel, and the most famous in Singapore. If this 5 star hotel is beyond your accommodation budget, it’s still worth a visit, just for high tea at the Tiffin Room.

One more thing! You can’t visit Singapore without sampling their most famous export – the Singapore Sling! Developed sometime before 1915 by Ngiam Tong Boon, a bartender working at the Long Bar in Raffles Hotel, you can still visit the exact bar and indulge in this legendary cocktail.
